Sean Connery!!!!!!!!!!

The name rippled me in my teens; mesmerized in youth and tore apart even at this age last year. Not sure, what to say – a myth? Or a sheer playboy? Sean Connery is the Bond; Bond is Sean Connery. Yes, keeping others in loop, tell me honestly – where you will find that glance of the eyes? Or even that way of talking? Hollywood has given more sophisticated pronunciation enabler in decades, but how to match with the throwing of the words that Connery did? Search, trust me – You can’t find any competitor even.

In between when I heard of him from my father and an exclusive interview at BBC after his retirement, already all the seven movies have been gulped. Gulped, make a note of the word where every James bond scene one can vividly reproduce at any point of time. Till several years, I didn’t have any difference between Bond & Connery. You might say that this obituary is becoming more Bond oriented one, but can you avoid him in any of the Bond movies irrespective he was present or not? No, you can’t. In my close circle, I used to lament that why he was not interested to continue to be in the Bond franchise and how we tolerated George Lazenby in “On her Majesty’s Secret Service”!!!!! Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig – you can find so many award winning actors for Bond, but the standard set by Sean Connery starting from 1962 Dr. No is yet to be touched at all. It’s my personal feeling as over the years, Bond changed its complexions and more technological advancements have been added in the later movies, but where remains the thrill, excitement and smart action without Sean Connery? You carry on searching the answer and in the meantime, let me recollect what was the substance of that famous BBC interview.

When asked, Connery expressed his tiredness of being famous as James Bond. Look man, a person whom the entire world admires, he wants to get out of that. Why? Because, in every movie he feared of performing less than the earlier. The same fear transpired in other movies those were never a hit despite his utmost effort. Accepted, He is not as successful apart from the success of Bond. Still he wants to evade away. Coming from a simple family and with no formal training of acting, he never thought to be an actor even. Oh!! Forgot to tell my football enthusiastic friends, Sean Connery was offered to be a part of Manchester United Youth Development Program, a privilege for any young boy. He declined thinking he is already approaching 25 years and hardly can contribute in a physical game like football. Now, you choose, whether it’s a loss or gain.

What he was before an actor? Well, let’s change the question in reverse way – what he was not? A milkman to distribute milk to every houses in England, a mariner who was sent off due to medical issues, a lorry driver, a labour, a life guard, a coffin polisher and yes, a model to earn money. Surprised? Don’t be. Then comes Acting, the last.
